Salmon FFA Chapter traveled to
National FFA Convention the week
of October 15 through the 23. There
were 10 members able to make the
trip.
Saturday the Chapter left Salmon
and traveled to Mt. Rushmore. The
following day members traveled
through the Badlands National Park,
along with going to the Corn Palace
in Mitchell, South Dakota and the St.
Louis Arch.
Monday all traveling were able
to take a break and try their hands
at zip-lining at Caveman Zipline in
Missouri. That night the Chapter
drove to Kentucky. The next day
members attended and toured the
Kentucky Horse Park in Lexington,
along with a tour of several Thoroughbred
horse farms around the
area. Later that night the Chapter
attended a formal dinner and play
called Steady Rain.
Wednesday members awoke
bright and early to witness some of
those great Thoroughbreds do morning
workouts at Keenland Racetrack.
The same day the Chapter traveled
to Indianapolis where they attended
the speedway.
Later that day the Chapter attended
their first session of the 84th
National FFA Convention. The
following day the Chapter took a
tour of Purdue University’s animal
science program and attended the
third session. That night members
attended a Blake Shelton concert
with Steel Magnolia and Little Big
Town.
Friday all members went to the
Career Expo and went on a tour of
an equine therapeutic and farrier.
Members attended their final session
which was the seventh session.
Saturday the Chapter drove to
Lincoln, Nebraska and on Sunday
completed the journey back to
Salmon.
Overall the trip was a complete
success with members learning
about various careers, FFA positions
and opportunities outside of Salmon
High School.
This Thursday after school the
Chapter is holding their annual
Harvest Fest, which is agriculture
olympics.
It is open to the community is
invited and dinner will be served. If
you plan on attending we ask a dish
for the dinner be made. Agriculture
olympics start at 5 p.m. and dinner
starts at 6 p.m.
If you would like to attend National
Convention next time, it’s
easy, the Chapter holds meetings
every Thursday at lunch. Get a
lunch and join in on the fun in Katie
Cooper’s agricultural classroom.
